Fairytale In Fearrington

By Amy Bailey — February 08, 2016

Love is in the air no matter the time of year at The Fearrington House Inn and Restaurant. From love at first sight to love at first bite, this Relais & Chateaux Inn and restaurant nestled in the charming village of Fearrington just south of Chapel Hill, North Carolina will entice you to stay, play, and fall in love.

IMG_3290Tucked away down a country highway, Fearrington Village welcomes you with rolling farmland enclosed with white fences, a beautiful white washed barn, and of course the Beltie cows (aka Oreo cows.) Just like most of your Fearrington Village experience, these FearringtonGardensbeautiful creatures look like something out of a storybook. You will also find two turtle doves in the property’s boutique Dovecote and gorgeous European-influenced gardens with stone paths throughout the property, around every corner there is a scene reminiscent of a Hans Christian Andersen tale.

FearringtonRoomIf the sight of a mother Beltie cow and her calf do not melt your heart, perhaps the entrance to The Fearrington House Inn will. A white fence lined, beautifully landscaped, slated courtyard leads you to your simply, yet elegantly decorated room. A tray of fruits and locally made chocolates awaits you at your door. You will also find marble countertops in your bathroom and a heavenly bed to lay your head. Also off the courtyard of the inn sits a beautifully furnished sun room overlooking the gardens as well as a library with roaring fireplace and espresso nook.

The Spa at Fearrington is a delight for your body, mind and soul. With an array of massages, body wraps, exfoliations, facials, and manicures/pedicures, you will find yourself renewed and refreshed from head to toe.

IMG_3267If all this splendor and attention to detail hasn’t quite captured your heart, prepare your palate for a meal fit for a king and queen. The Fearrington House Restaurant is situated in a two story house. A hostess greets you at the door and asks if you would like to enjoy the sitting room by the fire or bar as you wait for your table. The extremely knowledgeable bartender knows his craft well and will prepare you any libation you desire. Our choose of poison – Sazerac and Corpse Reviver #2.

FearringtonWineWhen your table is ready it is time for an unforgettable meal. You may choose 3 courses, 4 courses, chef’s tasting, or vegetarian tasting, as well as wine pairings for each dish. The Fearrington House Restaurant’s wine cellar is a library of wines selected by Wine Director Maximilian Kast. Each wine allows you to discover a story, as told by Fearrington’s wine team. Fearrington’s sommeliers expertly select wine for you based on your preferences to pair perfectly with Chef Colin Bedford’s cuisine.

IMG_3269To call Chef Colin a ‘chef’ is much like calling Van Gogh a ‘painter’ or Shakespeare a ‘playwright’, Chef Colin’s culinary artistry opens the door to a world of cuisine that very few can master. Not only does each plate look like a work of art, the flavors are so exactly proportioned, that each bite is a sensual burst of heaven in your mouth. From the venison to the sun IMG_3430chokes to the lobster to the chocolate souffle, our meal at The Fearrington House Restaurant is as memorable and full of life as a first kiss. It is easy to see why couples return year after year for anniversaries and birthdays.

FearringtonPortDizzy with delight we returned to our room to find a carafe of port and gourmet chocolates bedside. As we drifted off to dreamland visions of Beltie cows, beautifully manicured garden paths, and decadent food danced in our heads.

You will also find on property The Granary offering a casual setting for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. The Goat deli, wine and coffee shop offers coffee brewed on site, fresh morning pastries and breakfast selections in addition to the freshly prepared chopped salads, soups, sandwiches, gelato and wines by the glass served throughout the day. Stop in for the morning paper, an afternoon pick-me-up or a glass of wine after work (The Goat offers over 100 bottles of wine from small producers hand picked by the wine team.) Set in the middle of our Village Center, Roost Beer Garden offers local brews, wine by the glass, live music and wood-fired pizza during the spring, summer and fall. Enjoy a table under large oak trees.
